The definition of a co-op, or cooperative, is a business that is owned and operated by its members.
Without the help of every member volunteering their time and skills, our co-op would not exist. If you are thinking about becoming a member or you are a current member, challenge yourself to think about ways to help contribute in some way.
Contributing to the community also benefits you directly. Studies show that volunteering time and expertise enhances your well-being in the following ways:
Reduces social isolation: Human contact is proven to lower risk for depression & anxiety, while improving your immune system.
Creates friendships: After just one meeting, you will have new friends.
Provides a sense of purpose: No matter who we are, life is better when we can contribute
We have many ways to get involved, and volunteers are recruited all year. Here are a few areas where you can help:
Nightly security: duties include locking up clubhouse and quonset hut, checking post lights are not burned out
Landscaping: duties include weeding and sprucing up the park landscape
Ice cream socials: setting up and serving ice-cream or root beer floats on Sundays
Community Garden: helping with planting, weeding and harvesting the garden
Bylaws Committee: review current bylaws and make suggestions
Crafting: several park members create items that are sold in the craft room
Sliver Seekers: this group plans and carries out all of our social activities. The possibilities here are endless.
You don’t have to steer the ship, just help us paddle. If you are not physically able to volunteer but would like to do your part, we can still find ways for you to contribute. For more information please contact the office, BOD President, or Silver Seekers President.
